Nike bought the virtual sneaker manufacturer RTFKT

The world has been obsessed in recent weeks by a metaverse boom that will see a huge shift towards a completely digital world in the coming years. Although, of course, there is a group of people who are frightened by a similar idea, many more people are looking forward to something similar, and companies are already preparing for this digital world, whether by buying land or other objects. However, Nike took a relatively different approach and bought the virtual sneaker RTFKT straight away for a hitherto unknown amount.

“This acquisition is another step that accelerates Nike’s digital transformation and allows us to serve athletes and creators at the intersection of sport, creativity, gaming and culture.”

Last month, Nike was one of the first major brands to enter the virtual world, which has been advancing for some time, but after Facebook Inc. was recently renamed Meta Platforms Inc., it literally went crazy. Founded in 2020 by the trio of Benoit Pagotto, Chris Le, and Steven Vasilev, RTFKT also produces NFT-based collectibles and memes based on its website. We don’t know about you, but we’re really looking forward to the metaverse.
